Detour: A Taste of the Alps
detour
Went to get paint mixed at the auto parts store. Ended up at a German bakery instead.
A Taste of the Alps, Idaho Springs. The kind of place that’s been there forever and looks exactly like the name suggests. Wood paneling, pretzel-shaped signs, cases full of strudel and Black Forest cake and those massive soft pretzels that require both hands.
I was in town to pick up custom-matched touch-up paint for the van. The paint counter said come back in an hour. The bakery was across the street. I came back with pretzels and no regrets.
Why this matters
Because this is the point. The van isn’t finished. It won’t be finished for months. If I wait until it’s done to take detours, I’ll miss the part where building it is also living with it.
Also because the pretzels were excellent and I’m not apologizing for stopping.
Next: more build updates, more detours, more of whatever happens when you’re building a van and also driving it and also figuring out what it’s actually for.
